Hello All,
My company filed for my H1-B extension and I have already received the Notice Of Action (Receipt) with "Received date: October 21, 2008" and "Notice Date: October 24, 2008." My case is in Vermont Center. However when I do the case search on USCIS.gov site, it says:
"Your case can not be found at this time in Case Status Online. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, you can either call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283, or you can send an e-mail to uscis.webmaster@dhs.gov."
I did not type my EAC number incorrectly. I did try to call the above number, which happens to be the national center's number. However it goes in loops and loops but I was not able to speak to a Customer Service representative...I tried almost all applicable options.
Is there a way i can call the Vermont Service directly. If so could anyone please list that number. I would really appreciate any kind of help and suggestions regarding this.

The American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act (ACWIA), imposes annual reporting requirements on U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) concerning the countries of origin and occupations of, educational levels attained by, and compensation paid to, aliens who were issued visas or otherwise provided nonimmigrant status under H1B Visas (http://www.h1b.biz/lawyer-attorney-1137085.html) during the previous fiscal year.

The lawyers at Los Angeles' Fong & Chun are no exception, and in fact, this recent change affects some of our clients who do business in or own businesses in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
On 28 November 2008, "the United States" as defined for purposes of the Immigration & Nationality Act (INA) just got bigger, with the addition of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Although there are probably wrinkles I have not yet read in the treaty, this essentially puts the CNMI on the same footing as Puerto Rico. Here's the cute part:
Because the CNMI will become part of the "United States" as defined by �101(a)(38) of the INA, "residence or presence in the CNMI before 28 November 2009 shall NOT be considered residence or physical presence within the USA for INA purposes. Thus, on 29 November 2009, all persons physically present in the CNMI are considered "to be present in the United States without inspection, by operation of law."
Will these PWIs (present without inspection) be eligible to adjust status? Unclear? Are they working "abroad" for purposes of L visas? Yes, as it turns out. One thing is clear: Legal Permanent Residents (so-called "green" card holders) who wish to base a naturalization application based on physical presence in the CNMI will NOT be able to do so for pre-29 November 2009 periods of time. I have to agree that the back ground is a bit distracting, but the petal is a very cool shot. If this were my shot I would try a few things in Photoshop to change it up. Like maybe make the background black and try black and white? Something like that may add something to it. Just a thought. Don't give up on it there's something there it just has to be found-:)!!

Reciept notice should be recieved as soon as USCIS recieves the application. It shouldn't take much time though I kind of feel it should not take more than couple of days from USCIS part to send the reciept and then 4-5 days for postal reciept. I guess in about weekdays time after reciept at USCIS, you should recieve the notice.
This is just my understanding. Also some one said, you can start working for the new company as soon as your application is delivered to the USCIS. Get this confirmed by some one.

My wife and I will be Canadian Permanent Residents in a few months. I am on EAD with I485 pending and have AP. She is on H1B
We will need to Travel to Canada for Immigrant Landing formalities after we get PR.
How can we enter back in US so that my AOS and her H1B Status is not affected?

I left the US for good after spending around 5 years on H1-B sometime last year and have only made entries on tourist visa. Can I apply for a new 6 year H1-B quota since leaving the H1-B status last year or will I have to spend 1 year outside since the last tourist visa entry ?
